Reading Log #1 Topic Choice 5
While reading Belly Up the main character Teddy says ‘’In fact, I bet I know more about animlas than any twelve year old you’ve met.’’ However, later on in the chapter he mentions how his parents and him had to leave because a civil war was starting and then they believed they needed to leave. This is how the text relates to the icon changes over time.  He then says ‘’I’d had to resort to playing practical jokes, like giving giving the chimps water balloons.’’  Something that dosen’t change is the fact that Teddy still has a love for animals and is very fascinated in them even if he left where he grew. So that is one thing that hasn’t changed. As for why and how it changed. Why it changed was simply because he had to move due to living in a dangerous war zone. But for as for how is because it dosen’t feel the same seeing the animals in a zoo rather in wild life in his perspective. As for the relatable elements. As mentioned before even though things changed for him he still loved animals and was still facisnated by them.

Reading Log #2:Belly Up: Chapter 2
An important scene that happened in Belly Up is when the ‘’Henry The Hippo’’ ended up going upside down and died in his exihibit. This scene was important because the whole premis of the story bases around a a zoo/amusement park who’s mascot is a hippo. So this builds up a a huge conflict because without the face of the amusement park itself creates alot of drama and no longer gives life to the amusement park. The character reactions were there was some who were shocked, dissapointed, and overall angry. For example in the text it says ‘’Marge’s grip finally relaxed on my ear. She was so stunned she’d forgotten about me. Instead, she stared at Henry vacantly, not knowing what to do.’’ Another person who showed their feelings toward the situation was she said ‘’ He’s not sleeping, a little girl said, wrinkling her nose in disgust.’’He’s dead!’’ These two quotes showed how the people felt about this situation. This scene is showing rising action because its starting to build drama within both the people and what is going on overall. A prediction I would make about the story is I have a feeling is that the characters revolving around the story are going to do something with Henry to keep him in the zoo somehow even though he is dead.

Reading Log #3 Belly Up: Chapter 20
An important scene in Belly Up took place in the last chapter. It is happening when J.J the owner of FunJungle, is trying to figure out who killed his mascot Henry the hippo. This scene is important because it tells why Henry mysteriously was dead in his exihibit in the first place. During this scene one of the suspects, Buck starts to show his colors on the topic of Henry being dead. His reaction shows he is denying Teddy after he said that Buck killed him. However, he himself was the murderer of Henr., This scene is taking place as the falling action. A quote showing that Buck was denying what Teddy says is on page 280. ‘’I’m not the one who killed Henry.’’ Martin spun around at Buck ‘’He did!’’. The next quote is Buck’s response being ‘’Buck stared bullets back at him. ‘’Now you’re just talking crazy.’’ My prediction for the next scene is in the end Buck will be the one who ended up murdering Henry and will be fired from FunJungle.
